Doyoung internally rejoiced when he saw the smile on Jaehyun’s face disappear. Ha, he probably didn’t expect him to face him head on. Normally, he wouldn’t engage in any form of direct hostility towards his competition since he was never good in engaging in word wars and would end up quietly fuming on the sidelines. But today was different. He felt it was time for them to address their issues, whatever it was going on between them, once and for all. His happiness was short-lived, however. Jaehyun would always infuriatingly find a way to burst Doyoung’s bubble. Of course other people would disagree with him. Jaehyun’s fans were too blinded by his rival’s perfect image that they’re unable to see what Doyoung had always seen him in his eyes; a manipulative two-faced guy. “Well, yes, they might disagree with me but at least it would give them an idea of what you really are--- a wolf in sheep’s clothing.” He said, a smug look on his face.

His gaze followed Jaehyun’s hand. He thought that the other would tear the poster off, but he didn’t. And the reason why made Doyoung regret his decision of vandalizing. Jaehyun was right. This action would only tarnish his own side more than it would his rival. In fact, it might even bring in more sympathy towards Jaehyun’s team if the other played his cards right. ‘Damn it. I shouldn’t have listened to Ten’s advice.’ It was a stupid idea. Why did he even listen to it? He should have known his friend was up to something when he planted the idea in his head. But he was the bigger idiot for falling for it.

Doyoung still refused to take a step back, although his resolution was starting to wane. Jaehyun was starting to get awfully close for his liking, the discomfort showing visibly on his feature. If Jaehyun looked handsome in poster, it was nothing compared to seeing him in person, and at this proximity. He could feel his self-confidence slowly taking a nosedive the closer the other gets. His fingers curled tightly on his marker. There was a growing temptation to take a quick swipe on Jaehyun’s cheek to make him look less perfect and wipe off that smug smile off him.

“I have other better things to do… I have… stuff to work on for the campaign.” That was an obvious lie. Honestly, aside from defacing the posters, he didn’t have anything planned for the entire day. He was too busy obsessing in defeating Jaehyun that it was the only thing occupying his mind lately. He knew it was Valentine’s Day, but he hasn’t planned anything special. Why would he? He had no one to celebrate it with. He did receive a few chocolates from his supporters though, which made him really happy. “And how about you? Shouldn’t you be celebrating your birthday somewhere with your fans rather than snooping around on what your opponents are doing?”

He laughed dryly at Doyoung turning the question back around on him. But he still got defensive, as he too hadn't actually made any plans either. "Snooping? I was just coming by to get my things."

Jaehyun tried to simply sound matter-of-fact about it and dodged the specific part of the question about his plans. Sure, it probably was surprising that he had none, as Doyoung's words suggested, since he should have had no trouble finding a date on this day with so many fans. On one hand he'd been told that it was good to keep his mystique by remaining "available yet unattainable" and he sort of blindly followed that for some time until he mainly just got used to being alone. Of course he wished he had someone special to spend the day with every now and then, but the deeper truth was that he hadn't found anyone that stirred any particularly strong emotions in him.

Unless one counted Doyoung. But, no, those were feelings of hatred and contempt. Surely not anything else. That old phrase came to mind about the thin line between love and hate...but, no, no no. Jaehyun tried not to let himself wonder down that path too long. Whatever was possibly lurking there could only be a weakness and there was still a week before the vote. Now was not the time to show any of that. Despite the effort to shake those abrupt thoughts away, it did give him an idea. And before he could reign that one in, he spoke it out loud.

"I have a proposition for you. How about this: treat me to a birthday dinner?" Was it a trap? A peace offering? A gesture of strange curiosity? It was likely a combination of all of the above. Today had already been a little bizarre and in all honesty, the whole campaign was worthy of theater. Even moreso in this moment, straight out of an eighties' high school comedy. Not that he had seen too many of those. But hey, why not embrace the unconventional, he thought. He decided to also be a little transparent about his plans, but still held back these new questions that were hesitant to come to light, even to his own self.

"We can spin it this way: you offered to treat me to a meal as a way to apologize for your fans' childish behavior and then I still look gracious for agreeing to eat with my rival."

The proposition totally caught Doyoung off guard, the confusion quite evident on his face. Jaehyun’s offer just came out of nowhere. He found it really… bizarre. Of all the things Jaehyun could ask from him, he chose dinner. Doyoung had thought the other would request something more detrimental than that, like make him do something embarrassing during the election debate or force him to vandalize his own posters as well. But instead of choosing to damage his rival’s image and secure his seat on the student council by simply exposing him to everyone, Jaehyun chose to just ask him for dinner as compensation. How very noble of him… and suspicious. He had an inkling the other male might be up to something. Why else would he even offer such a deal? For fun? A way to call a truce? Maybe it was a trap? He couldn’t figure it out. He really hated how the other could easily make him confused and aggravated at the same time.

“Why would you even want me to treat you to dinner? Wouldn’t you like it more if you spend your birthday with someone you actually like rather than with your own rival?” He said, tilting his head to the side.

The offer might be quite suspicious but Doyoung still weighed the pros and cons of accepting it. The obvious pros would be he’d save face in front of everyone and no one would ever know that he had gone as low as vandalizing another candidate’s campaign posters. And in the end, he might still be able to win the election. While the cons would be… he’d never hear the end of Ten’s teasing. His Thai friend and campaign manager would never let him live it down once he finds out that he had shared a meal with his rival on Valentine’s Day (and on said rival’s birthday, too), especially after all those late night rants he made about Jaehyun and how he said he would rather die than be seen getting friendly around him. His friend had already been teasing him lately that he was acting like a schoolgirl with a crush whenever the topic of Jaehyun comes around. It was quite absurd, of course. Why would he even have a crush on him when there was nothing else he felt for his rival but hate? Sure, he sometimes catches himself admiring Jaehyun’s fa—No. He quickly stopped his thoughts right there. That was a path he didn’t want to go. The main point was he only had strong feelings of hatred towards Jaehyun. Nothing else.

“And If I do accept your offer, how can I be certain you’ll never tell everyone about what I did?” Doyoung pressed the back tip of his marker on Jaehyun's chest, trying to push him back slightly to create a little more space between them. "I don't really trust you, you know."
