The proposition totally caught Doyoung off guard, the confusion quite evident on his face. Jaehyun’s offer just came out of nowhere. He found it really… bizarre. Of all the things Jaehyun could ask from him, he chose dinner. Doyoung had thought the other would request something more detrimental than that, like make him do something embarrassing during the election debate or force him to vandalize his own posters as well. But instead of choosing to damage his rival’s image and secure his seat on the student council by simply exposing him to everyone, Jaehyun chose to just ask him for dinner as compensation. How very noble of him… and suspicious. He had an inkling the other male might be up to something. Why else would he even offer such a deal? For fun? A way to call a truce? Maybe it was a trap? He couldn’t figure it out. He really hated how the other could easily make him confused and aggravated at the same time.
“Why would you even want me to treat you to dinner? Wouldn’t you like it more if you spend your birthday with someone you actually like rather than with your own rival?” He said, tilting his head to the side.
The offer might be quite suspicious but Doyoung still weighed the pros and cons of accepting it. The obvious pros would be he’d save face in front of everyone and no one would ever know that he had gone as low as vandalizing another candidate’s campaign posters. And in the end, he might still be able to win the election. While the cons would be… he’d never hear the end of Ten’s teasing. His Thai friend and campaign manager would never let him live it down once he finds out that he had shared a meal with his rival on Valentine’s Day (and on said rival’s birthday, too), especially after all those late night rants he made about Jaehyun and how he said he would rather die than be seen getting friendly around him. His friend had already been teasing him lately that he was acting like a schoolgirl with a crush whenever the topic of Jaehyun comes around. It was quite absurd, of course. Why would he even have a crush on him when there was nothing else he felt for his rival but hate? Sure, he sometimes catches himself admiring Jaehyun’s fa—No. He quickly stopped his thoughts right there. That was a path he didn’t want to go. The main point was he only had strong feelings of hatred towards Jaehyun. Nothing else.
“And If I do accept your offer, how can I be certain you’ll never tell everyone about what I did?” Doyoung pressed the back tip of his marker on Jaehyun's chest, trying to push him back slightly to create a little more space between them. "I don't really trust you, you know."
