The satisfaction of shaking his rival up with his timing was sweet, comparable even to the massive amount of sweets and chocolate he had recieved for Valentine's (and his birthday). In fact he was on his way to retrieve the bulk before he stumbled upon this scene. But this sense of righteousness was shaken off quickly, as soon as it was apparent that Doyoung hadn't decided to simply roll his eyes and run off in shame, or even annoyance. In fact, they'd managed to skate by each other (purposely of course) rather than outright engage in any combative banter until this moment. Sure, Jaehyun had prodded him first and a fight was what he should have expected, but he figured if there was a day to set pettiness aside, it was today.
Oh, how wrong he was about both of their abilities to do so. How much he underestimated Doyoung in that moment, a mistake he usually tried not to make. To his further detriment, it wasn't subtle enough, the way Doyoung's retort broke the smile on Jaehyun's face with ease. And it was upsetting to be caught breaking character, especially given the fact that he had just been called on it. It was almost like giving him ammo to use against him, despite him not having true evidence that could be presented of this. On top of everything, it was additionally frustrating because he was the one who caught his opponent in a petty act. Why had he allowed Doyoung to rattle him this way?
But regardless, Jaehyun had faith in his ability to smooth things over for himself at least, gathering what bravado remained with a deep breath. "Oh, I trust that there are plenty of folks who would disagree with you and it's their opinion that matters anyway." Jaehyun held out one arm out to touch the wall at Doyoung's side, his gaze following to stare at the poster. For a brief moment, it looked as if he was going to tear the poster off the wall, but he stopped himself. He turned to look at Doyoung pensively, then, curling his lips into his mouth. In his mind, he almost wished he too had a marker to wreck his competitor's face in real time because this close up, it isn't fair how handsome he really was, even if he didn't know it - and that was what really irked him. Especially with this determinism, however difficult it was for him to muster (that fact unknown to Jaehyun). They were both simultaneously good at bluffing, yet not good at hiding their strong antagonistic feelings for one another and here it was at the surface.
"You know what, let's leave the poster as is. That's all the students will see: that someone on your side resorted to such a low tactic. Never mind that everyone's gone for the day and that the morning clean up crew are fans of mine." The smug smile returned. "Tell me something, though." Jaehyun stepped closer again and folded his arms across his chest. "Do you not have plans today? Nothing better to do than this?"
